Round Two: Barbados v. Trinidad & Tobago (TCL Group West Indies Under 19 Challenge)
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Hosts Barbados earned first innings points, although Trinidad & Tobago held a slender lead with seven second innings wicket standings in their TCL Group West Indies Under-19 match on Thursday.
Trinidad & Tobago, trailing by 86 runs from the first innings, reached 115 for three in their second innings when stumps were drawn on the second day of their second round match at Kensington Oval.
Barbados had earlier been dismissed for 207, replying to T&T’s first innings total of 121, then had their opponents on the back-foot.
Batting a second time, Trinidad & Tobago lost makeshift opener Kareem Jumadeen early, when Diego Stuart bowled him for three.
Lewis and Barath carried the score to 56 before the injured Lewis left the field, and three runs later, things became unstuck.
The Barbadians tightened their grip, when Adrian Barath was caught at second slip off Jason Holder for 11, and Yannick Cariah was caught behind off Randall Hoyte for the same score to leave Trinidad & Tobago 96 for three.
Trinidad & Tobago had also suffered a setback, when Evin Lewis, a century-maker in the first match, was forced to retire hurt on 33, having aggravated a left leg injury.
Kjorn Ottley was not out on 29 and Akiel Cooper was unbeaten with 10, after they batted through most of the final hour.
Barbados had continued from their bedtime position of 138 for three, and the pair of Roston Chase and Dario Cummins added 63 runs in close to two hours for the fourth wicket before they were parted.
Chase was caught on the square-leg boundary off left-arm spinner Javed Boodram for 50.
It was Chase’s first half-century at this level, and the feat was achieved from 97 balls included two fours.
All-rounder Jason Holder joined Dario Cummins and added a further 20 runs before Barbados lost their fifth wicket.
Cummins was caught at mid-on off Hakeem Mitchell for 32, and more success was to come for Trinidad & Tobago before the lunch interval, when Kemal Smith was run out for six, after he was involved in a terrible mix-up with Holder.
Barbados innings folded about 40 minutes after the break, as Boodram ended with four wickets for 55 runs from 26.3 overs, and Cariah snared four for 56 from 25 overs.
