Anguilla avenge loss to Nevis
THE VALLEY, Anguilla (CMC) - Experienced Anguillian all-rounder Terrance Adams lashed a flurry of late-innings runs for Anguilla to beat Nevis by five wickets in their NAGICO Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA) limited overs match on Sunday.
Batting first at Webster Park, Nevis, who had won the LICA three-day match between the two teams on Saturday, scored 201 all out in 45.3 overs.
Adams then lashed 17 runs -- including two fours and one six -- off debutant 16 year-old off spinner O'Shane Williams in the 49th over, to set up the victory, Anguilla finishing on 205 for five off 49 overs.
Adams, who hit an unbeaten 32 in last weekend's one-day win against St Maarten, ripped into the newcomer, hitting straight back over his head to the boundary, then pulling him powerfully past square leg for another four before lifting Williams high over mid-wicket for a huge six in the penultimate over.
The home side had been cruising along at 160 for two before the leg-spinner Akito Willett tightened things with two quick wickets for Nevis.
Opener Lyndel Richardson played well for 82, which included 10 fours off 124 balls and shared in a third-wicket century partnership with Junior Johnson, who cracked six boundaries in a knock of 47.
Akito Willett ended with two for 32 with one wicket each for medium pacer Leon Powell, left-arm spinner Junie Williams and O'Shane Williams.
Earlier, Andre Bowne had top-scored for Nevis with 42, while Akito Willett (35), Javia Liburd (28) and Carlon Smithen (24) made useful contributions.
Anguilla's captain Chaka Hodge took three for 32, supported by Daniel Proctor (2-19), Montcin Hodge (2-31), and Delon Skellekie (2-61).
Nevis had won the three-day match by five wickets.
The win was Anguilla's second straight success in the NAGICO one-dayers following their two-wicket triumph over St Maarten.
