Gayle moves up to Number 6 among allrounders
ST. JOHN'S, Antigua -- West Indies captain Chris Gayle has moved up three places among allrounders in the International Cricket Council’s Test rankings released on Tuesday. Gayle, a powerful left-handed opener and clever off-spinner, is now at Number 6 thanks to his bold 74 and 3-42 from 21 overs in the first Test against New Zealand in Dunedin, which ended in a draw.
Allrounder Dwayne Bravo, who is recovering after having an operation on his ankle in September, remains at Number 4.
Meanwhile in the batting, Shivnarine Chanderpaul has maintained his position at Number 1. The left-hander who was named the ICC’s International Cricketer of the Year in September made a patient 76 from 200 balls in the first Test to stay ahead of his rivals. West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor remains in the Top 20 bowlers at Number 18. Taylor took one wicket in the first Test, but was brilliant with the bat – hitting 106 from 107 balls – his first century in any form of the game.
