It's a tie! Six-hit count gets Bajans over CCC in night of drama
Barbados recorded a sensational victory over Combined Campuses & Colleges in Match 4 of the West Indies Board's Caribbean T20 Tournament at Kensington Oval on Friday night. The match ended in a tie and which led to the one-over eliminator.Barbados batted first on a placid surface and made 180-6 off 20 overs with a brilliant 42 not out by Carlo Morris. The students replied with 180-5 off their 20 overs, thanks to a stunning 39 not out from Ryan Wiggins.
The match then went into the one-over eliminator and CCC rattled up 16-0 to which Barbados replied with 16-1. The end of the eliminator was dramatic with Dwayne Smith hitting a six over square leg. The ball was caught by Romel Currency but he touched the boundary rope to spark wild celebrations among the partisan supporters in the crowd. This meant the Bajans were then declared winners early Saturday having hit more sixes in the match – 8 to 7.
For the win the Bajans got four points to join Guyana at the top of Zone B. After the conclusion Wiggins said it was a great match.
He said: “This was a great match. we started on Friday and ended on Saturday. How about that ... it seemed it would never finish. We fought hard to the very end and it was a tough way to lose. We will take heart from this match. We know we can play well and we still have two matches left to qualify for the semi-finals.”
