All set for super semi-finals in Caribbean T20

The top four team have made it through and the stage is set for the semi-finals of the inaugural West Indies Cricket Board’s Caribbean T20 Tournament. Both matches will be played at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Friday. In the first match Trinidad and Tobago will take on Guyana at 4 pm (3 pm Jamaica time) while in the second match Barbados will face Jamaica at 8 pm (7 pm Jamaica Time). The two winners of the semi-finals will meet in the grand final on Saturday at 8 pm.

Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica both qualified on Wednesday from Group A, while the Barbadians and the Guyanese both advanced after Thursday’s wash-out. All four teams had a relatively easy path to the Final Four and they will be looking to go all the way.

There is a lot at stake. The winning team will take home the sparkling, new Caribbean T20 trophy as well as US$25 000. Group A will be made up of Chennai Super Kings, Victoria Bushrangers, Wayamba XI of Sri Lanka, Central Stags of New Zealand and the Warriors of South Africa.

The Caribbean T20 champs will open their campaign on Sunday, September 12 against Bangalore at SuperSports Park in Centurion. The second group stage match will be against Mumbai on Thursday, September 16 at Kingsmead in Durban, followed by a clash with the home side Highveld Lions on Sunday, September 19, at the Wanderers in Johannesburg; and a date with the Redbacks at the same venue on Tuesday, September 21. The semi-finals will be in Durban on Friday, September 24 and Centurion on Saturday, September 25. The grand final will be at the Wanderers on Sunday, September 26.
