Bajan top Leewards despite Cornwall six-hitting jamboree

Kingston, Jamaica - Leeward Islands captain Wilden Cornwall played one of the most amazing innings in regional limited-overs history but finished on the losing side against Barbados in their opening Group B WICB Regional 50 Over Tournament match on Friday.

The 37-year-old veteran hit 30 runs in one over from Marlon Graham, the debutant off-spinner, in an amazing 85 off 59 balls. The hurricane knock enabled the Leewards to recover and reach 239-8 off their 50 overs. The Bajans then replied with 240-6 off 46.4 overs to win with 20 balls to spare on a placid surface at Sabina Park.

It was a day when the captains –Cornwall of the Leeward Islands and Ryan Hinds for Barbados – played key roles. In the first half Cornwall, took the attack to the Bajan bowlers and blasted five sixes and nine boundaries. He hauled his side out of deep trouble after they slipped 95-4 in the 30th over.
