Windies girls start tour with a win

Mumbai, India – The West Indies Women started their tour of India on a winning note as they defeated the BCCI President’s XI by five wickets in their opening match on Saturday.

The Windies limited the home side to 183-9 off 50 overs and then moved to 186-5 to win with eight overs to spare at the Bandra Kurla Complex.

The batting was led by left-handed allrounder Stacy-Ann King and captain Merissa Aguilleira. King struck six
boundaries in the topscore of 52 from 79 balls, and Aguilleira supported with eight fours in 42 from 64 balls. The
pair put on 103 for the fourth wicket to put their side on track for victory.

The powerful Deandra Dottin then ensured there were few or no hiccups the rest of the way, as she scored 28 from 20 balls with four boundaries.

Earlier, off-spinner Stafanie Taylor was the most successful bowler. The teenager captured three wickets for 38 runs from 10 overs, as the President’s XI. Earlier, fast bowler Shakira Selman gave Windies Women an early breakthrough, when she bowled Neha Tanwar for a four-ball “duck” in the third over.

President’s XI captain Diana David joined Harmanpreet Kaur, and they added 80 for the fourth wicket. Off-spinner Anisa Mohammed triggered a collapse, when she removed David for 28, and the President’s XI stumbled to 134-6. The Windies again met resistance, when Pandey and Snehal Pradhan added 42 for the seventh wicket before Taylor mopped up the tail.

The Windies Women will play the first One-Day International against India Women on Monday.
