CC&C take first innings from Jamaica
Spanish Town, Jamaica – Good batting from Wavell Hinds and Chadwick Walton was not enough for Jamaica as Combined Campuses & Colleges grabbed first innings points on the final day of their fifth round WICB First Class Championship match on Monday.
The left-handed Hinds scored 74 while Walton, the right-handed keeper, got 51. Jamaica were dismissed for 341, just short of CC&C’s first innings of 353 at Chedwin Park. CC&C were inspired by seamer Kevin McClean who finished with an impressive haul 5-79 and off-spinner Ryan Austin who claimed 3-53.
Resuming the day at 133-3, Jamaica lost Test batsman Brendan Nash after he added just five to his overnight 14, and when captain Tamar Lambert fell for 20 soon after, the hosts were sliding at 148-5. Hinds then anchored two crucial partnerships to haul Jamaica back into contention. He shared 86 for the sixth wicket with David Bernard (36) and then another 87 for the seventh wicket with Walton.
Hinds hit four boundaries and three sixes off 174 balls and lasted 279 minutes, before being eighth out to a catch at slip off Austin. Bernard face 82 balls with five fours but perished to the first of Floyd Reifer’s two catches at slip off Austin. Walton played positively for nearly two hours, facing 91 balls and hitting four boundaries and two massive sixes before losing his wicket just after tea.
