Aussies ready to meet Windies in Dubai
Melbourne, Australia, CMC – Australia Under-19 coach David Fitzgerald said that his side’s upcoming series against West Indies Under-19s in Dubai will be an important first step towards next year’s Youth World Cup on home soil.
Fitzgerald was speaking ahead of his side’s departure on Wednesday to play the four-match series at the Dubai Sports City complex.
The former top-order batsman for South Australia and Western Australia said he was looking forward to his first tour as Australia Under-19 coach and watching how his talented young group handled playing international opposition.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge and responsibility,” said Fitzgerald. “We’ve got a talented and versatile group of young players, and I’m looking forward to seeing how they go against international opposition, and how they learn from the experience.”
He added: “Representing your country at any level is a big honour, and I know this group is very much looking forward to that privilege.”
The Aussies have made a last-minute change to the squad that was announced last month, with Victorian Corey Ogle out with a side strain, and replaced by Queenslander Jacob Judd.
SQUAD: Kurtis Patterson, Taylor Scott, Jacob Judd, Corey McMahon, James Peirson, Nicholas Stevens, Sam Truloff, Jeremy Allison, Marc Simonds, Sebastian Gotch, Meyrick Buchanan, Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Joel Paris.
