Young Bajans win Festival in St Kitts

BASSETERRE, St Kitts, CMC - Barbados continue to stamp their dominance by retaining, yet again, their title as champions of the St.Kitts Under-13 Cricket Festival after a comfortable 40 run win over Nevis in the final round of matches on Monday.

It is the fifth straight year in a row and the ninth out of ten times that Barbados have won the six-island competition.

Shian Brathwaite scored 37, Joshua Bishop 36 and Nadjee Holder was unbeaten on 27 as the young Bajans reached 132 for four in 25 overs at Elquemedo Willet Park. Kemar Bowers snatched three for 19 and Micah Thornhill two for 16 to lead a Barbados bowling attack that restricted the home side to 92 all out in 23.3 overs.

Only Leshawn Freedom with a stubborn knock of 33 provided any measure of resistance to Barbados who played unbeaten to finish at the top of the table on 10 points.

Meantime, Dominica rebounded from a six wicket loss to Barbados, to dismiss Montserrat by eight wickets and take second place in the tournament. Batting first, Montserrat stumbled to a reachable target of 72 for seven in 25 overs at Warner Park. Dominica lost two wickets before coasting to victory in just eight overs.

Gamaleal Ophar top scored with 18 as the Dominicans eased to the winning target of 73 and secure 8 points to finish behind Barbados.

Nevis was third on 6 points, St Kitts – 4, Montserrat – 2 and Anguilla - 0.
