West Indies veterans level series against England veterans

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada -- Allrounder Rawl Lewis hit an aggressive half century and helped West Indies Veterans level their two-match Twenty20 series against England in the 5th Grenada Cricket Classics on Sunday.

Beaten by seven runs in the opening game on Saturday, West Indies won the second match by 38 runs at the Grenada National Stadium. Lewis a top-scored with 59 as West Indies scored 146 for six off 18 overs and England were restricted to 108 for seven off 18 overs in reply.

The match was reduced from 20 overs a side because of rain.

Sammy and Dowlin named to Stanford Superstars

COOLIDGE, Antigua (CMC) – West Indies medium pacer Darren Sammy and Guyanese batsman Travis Dowlin have been included in the Stanford Superstars line-up for next month’s lucrative Stanford Super Series.

The duo will replace injured all-rounder Dwayne Bravo and exciting West Indies opener Xavier Marshall who has been excluded. No reason has been given for the 22-year-old’s omission.

Smith steers Grenada to Windwards title

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) - West Indies opening batsman Devon Smith hit a brilliant century and helped Grenada capture the 2008 Windward Island cricket championship two-day title on Saturday.

Grenada secured the title by virtue of achieving first innings points in the drawn encounter over Dominica at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

The home team had scored 196 all out after winning the toss Friday and choosing to bat first.

Kevin James top-scored for Dominica with 62.

Shane Shillingford scored 30 and Samuel Mitchel added 27.

Shillingford to lead Dominica in Windwards tournament

ROSEAU, Dominica, (CMC) – Experienced Windward Islands off spinner, Shane Shillingford, has once again been charged with the responsibility of leading Dominica’s campaign at this year’s Windward Islands senior tournament, scheduled to bowl off here Sunday.

Shillingford, who has just returned to the island after his first stint of club cricket in England, will lead the team in the absence of Liam Sebastien, who is unavailable because of his studies at the UWI Cave Hill Campus in Barbados.

Sammy to lead St. Lucia's charge in Windwards tournament

CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC) – West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy will lead a 14-man St Lucia squad which leaves here Saturday to contest the annual Windward Islands senior tournament in Dominica.

The 24-year old, who has played five Tests and 17 One-Day Internationals, is the most experienced player in the line up for the competition which bowls off Sunday.

Windward Islands Under-19 player Denis Louis is the only newcomer on the squad which comprises mainly players from the disbanded St Lucia Stanford pro-team.
