Saunders, Baker set Leewards record

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Contrasting centuries by Akeem Saunders and Deno Baker helped Leeward Islands amass a tournament-high 423 all out and virtually erase Trinidad and Tobago’s chances of capturing the WICB Regional Under-19 three day Championship.

After toiling in the field for more than five sessions the Trinidadians responded with 92 for one, leaving a draw the most likely result should the Kensington Oval pitch maintain its bland nature on Thursday’s final day.

Last pair puts Bajans on top

Bridgetown, Barbados, CMC – A half-century stand for the last wicket put Barbados in a strong position to beat Guyana on the second day of their fifth round clash in the WICB Regional Under-19 Championship on Wednesday.

Barbados were cruising at 104 for three before collapsing spectacularly to be tottering on 150 for nine, as they lost six wickets for just 46 runs at the Desmond Haynes Oval.

They were undermined by left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai who picked up five for 73 and pacer Romario Shepherd who claimed three for 34.

George drives Windwards into lead

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Only three-and-a-half hours play was possible on the second day but Windward Islands still managed to secure first innings points over defending champions Jamaica in their final round clash in the Regional Under-19 three-day Championship on Wednesday.

A wet outfield at the Weymouth Sports Club kept players off the field for virtually two sessions and when play finally started at 2:30 pm, the Windwards played cautiously to reach 117 for three, overhauling Jamaica’s paltry first innings of 116.
