West Indies Under-19 back home

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC - West Indies Under-19 captain Kraigg Braithwaite says his team performed well despite its failure to capture the International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup.

Of the ten matches played the young West Indies lost two in the just ended 14 team tournament in Australia.

Braithwaite’s side won a series of matches in the preliminary round until the quarter final stage when they were first beaten by New Zealand and then England.

Windwards, Jamaica hope to topple Guyana

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC - Outside favorites Jamaica and Windward Islands are hoping to come out firing from all cylinders if they hope to upstage front runners Guyana as the final round of the WICB Under-19 one-day Championship bowls off in Barbados on Wednesday.

Jamaica who play Barbados at Bayfield and Windwards who meet Leewards at Kensington Oval are expected to press for outright victories and bonus points needed to stop the Guyanese from securing championship honours.

Guyana win big to stay top of the table

Bridgetown, Barbados — Guyana recorded an easy five-wicket win over Leeward Islands to end the West Indies Cricket Board’s Under-19 50-over tournament on a high on Monday.

The Guyanese bowled out the bottom-placed Leewards for just 94 runs and then sped to 97-5 off 22.2 overs as the match ended shortly after the lunch break. Fast bowler Romario Shepherd was again impressive with the new ball as he took a career-best 4-17.

Windwards score first win over Americas

WILDEY, Barbados, Aug 25, CMC – Windward Islands notched their first victory when they beat the luckless ICC Americas by 42 runs in their fifth round match of the Regional Under-19 one-day Championship here Saturday.

In a game reduced to 29 overs because of wet conditions at the LIME Sports Club, the Windwards finished on 171 for seven after they were sent in. Opener Gidron Pope anchored the innings with an unbeaten 72 while Taryck Gabriel got 25.
