WICB Under-19: Round 5 Day 2

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Following are the summarised close-of-play scores on the opening day of the fifth and final round of matches in the West Indies Cricket Board’s  Regional Under-19 three-day Championship on Wednesday:

Sublime Ambris eyes more runs

Brisbane, Australia - Fresh from an electrifying century against Papua New Guinea earlier this week, Sunil Ambris says he is on the hunt for more big runs when he lines up against Zimbabwe on Thursday.

Jones "up on pace" and having a ball

Brisbane, Australia - West Indies Under-19 new ball bowler Jerome Jones is feeling relaxed and confident as he prepares for the third Group C match of the International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup.

The strongly-built left-armer has been impressive with superb new ball spells against India and Papua New Guinea. West Indies won both matches to go top of the group. A win over Zimbabwe will see them qualify for the second round. This match will be played on Thursday (Wednesday 7.30 pm Eastern Caribbean Time/6.30 pm Jamaica Time).

Leewards bats enjoy opening day

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Leeward Islands batsmen turned in a solid performance that helped to vindicate a decision to bat first against title-challengers Trinidad and Tobago at Kensington Oval here Tuesday.

After winning the toss in overcast conditions on the opening day of their fourth round Regional Under-19 clash, the Leewards, inspired by a stoic, unbeaten 68 from captain Akeem Saunders, occupied the crease for the entire rain-shortened day to compile 221 for four.

Bajan pace too hot for Guyana

BLACK ROCK, Barbados, CMC – Guyana struggled against Barbados’ fast bowlers to fall for a paltry total, on a rain-hit opening day of the fifth round of matches in the WICB Regional Under-19 Championship on Tuesday.

Winning the toss and batting, Guyana were all out for 136, losing their last four wickets for 13 runs in four overs with the second new ball at the Desmond Haynes Oval.

Left-arm pacer Darnell Greenidge collected his three wickets, all by the lbw route in his fourth spell to claim three for 38.
