Under-19s start World Cup with smart win

Brisbane, Australia - The West Indies kicked off their campaign with a successful run-chase against India, beating the two-time former champion by four wickets. India was restricted to 166 for eight by a tight West Indies bowling unit as the two-time former champion was unable to strike up any significant partnerships.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Smit Patel top scored for the side, hitting a patient 51 (99 balls, 5x4) before being bowled by paceman Ronsford Beaton who finished as the most successful West Indies bowler with figures of 10-1-33-3.

Guyana trail but hit back at Windwards

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Twelve wickets tumbled on the second day here Saturday to leave the fourth round clash of the Regional Under-19 Championship between Guyana and Windward Islands an open affair heading into Sunday’s final day.

Predictably, the Windwards took first innings points after carrying their overnight 127 for three to 200 all out, in response to Guyana’s first day 147 all out at Queen’s Park.

At the close, Guyana were 167 for five in their second innings, an overall lead of 114 runs.

Jamaica have Leewards on the run

Bridgetown, Barbados, CMC – Jamaica were left thoroughly frustrated after rain forced a premature end to the second day of their fourth round match in the WICB Regional Under-19 Championship match, with Leeward Islands against the ropes on Saturday.

The defending champions had the Leewards Islands in dire straits on 79 for seven, when the bad weather forced a premature end, 90 minutes before the re-scheduled close of 6 pm at Yorkshire Sports club.

Bajans 110-1 after T&T's 337-8

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Inclement weather forced three lengthy stoppages to play and spoiled the second day of the fourth round Regional Under-19 match between Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday.

Altogether a total of 23 overs were lost to rain emanating from a tropical wave as the teams remained locked in battle for first innings honours with the two days producing 447 runs for the loss of only nine wickets.

Gabriel's power keeps Windwards on top

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – An aggressive, undefeated half-century from Tarryk Gabriel put the Windward Islands in sight of first innings points over Guyana on the opening day of their fourth round WICB Regional Under-19 Championship clash on Friday.

Gabriel stroked 71 to fire his side to 127 for three at the close, in reply to Guyana’s paltry first innings total of 147 all out at Queen’s Park.

The Windwards lost the early wicket of Gordon Pope without a run on the board, and the vital wicket of Jerlani Robinson for seven, to stumble to 14 for two.
