Leewards bats enjoy opening day

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Leeward Islands batsmen turned in a solid performance that helped to vindicate a decision to bat first against title-challengers Trinidad and Tobago at Kensington Oval here Tuesday.

After winning the toss in overcast conditions on the opening day of their fourth round Regional Under-19 clash, the Leewards, inspired by a stoic, unbeaten 68 from captain Akeem Saunders, occupied the crease for the entire rain-shortened day to compile 221 for four.

Bajan pace too hot for Guyana

Dember has day to remember

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Off-spinner Kenneth Dember’s six-wicket haul undermined defending champions Jamaica and put Windward Islands in control of their final round encounter of the WICB Regional Under-19 three-day Championship on Tuesday.

The wily Vincentian finished with six for 45 as Jamaica, sent in by the Windwards, were knocked over for a disappointing 116 at Weymouth Sports Complex.

At the close, the Windwards were making a cautious reply at 22 without loss, from the 18 overs available.

The West Indies did not allow PNG a hint of a chance in a comprehensive showing at Endeavour Field No.2 in Townsville in Group C of the ICC Under-19 World Cup Tournament.

Jamaica held off by Leewards

Bridgetown, Barbados, CMC – Jamaica’s skipper Oshane Walters bagged a ten-wicket match-haul but his effort was in vain as Leeward Islands held on for a tense draw on the final day of their fourth round of match in the WICB Regional Under-19 Championship on Sunday.
