Positive Powell finds his feet

Gros Islet, St Lucia — Opening batsman Kieran Powell showed his class on Sunday with a brilliant century as West Indies A took the upperhand over India A on the second day of the third four-day Digicel ‘Test’.

The tall left-hander was made a well-compiled 139 as the home side closed on 320 runs for eight wickets — an overall lead of 90 runs with two days left at Beausejour Cricket Ground. He was out late in the day, caught and bowled as he tried to pull pacer Shami Ahmed.

GROS ISLET, St Lucia, CMC – Opener Kieran Powell kept himself in the Test selection frame when he stroked his third first class hundred and his second in as many months, to lead an impressive West Indies A effort on the second day of the decisive third and final Digicel ‘Test’ against India A on Sunday.

Drafted into the squad after returning to the Caribbean from a disappointing Test tour of England, the attractive left-hander unfurled a superb 139 as West Indies A finished the day on 320 for eight, a lead of 90 on first innings.

Powell gets superb ton before tea

Bishoo taking steps back to the top

Gros Islet, St Lucia — Devendra Bishoo is working his way back to the top level of international cricket. The leg-spinner has a plan in place to regain a spot in the West Indies senior team, and that plan includes “a lot of hard work”.
