Windies trio in T&T team to face Jamaica

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad – Trinidad and Tobago will be boosted by the World Cup trio of Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Ravi Rampaul for their semi-final of the WICB First-Class Championship against Jamaica, starting this weekend.

Smith back for Windwards semi-final

Castries, St Lucia – West Indies opening batsman Devon Smith is one of three changes made to the Windward Islands side for this weekend’s semi-final clash with Combined Campuses & Colleges in the WICB First-Class Championship.

The left-handed Smith, a member of West Indies World Cup campaign, will replace another left-handed batsman Atticus Browne but West Indies captain Darren Sammy will not be in action at the 3Ws Oval.

Shane Shillingford making good progress

St John’s, Antigua – Off-spinner Shane Shillingford is making encouraging progress as he makes a bid to return to competitive cricket.

The 28-year-old from Dominica has had several sessions under the watchful eyes of the coaches at the Sagicor High Performance Centre (HPC), after he was taken out of the game for a suspect bowling action late last year.

SL dismiss NZ for 217 in semi

Colombo, Sri Lanka – New Zealand were all out for 217 off 48.5 overs against Sri Lanka in the first ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 semi-final at the R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday.

The topscore came from veteran allrounder Scott Styris, who made 57 from 77 balls, while opener Martin Gupril made 39 from 65 balls.

The best bowlers for Sri Lanka were speedster Lasith Malinga, who took 3-55 from nine overs, and slow bowler Ajantha Mendis who ended the innings with 3-35 from 9.5 overs.

New Zealand bat first against Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka – New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori won the toss and elected to bat against Sri Lanka in the first World Cup semi-final at the R Premadasa Stadium, on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka named an unchanged team from the line-up who beat England in the quarter-finals. Off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan was declared fit to play despite suffering from a bruised knee and a hamstring injury in the lead-up to the match.
