Skipper Ganga leads T&T fightback

Kingston, Jamaica – Captain Daren Ganga fought hard for an unbeaten half-century to lead a strong Trinidad and Tobago response on the second day of their sixth round WICB First-Class Championship match against Jamaica on Saturday.

Career-best 7-72 for Mathurin

Roseau, Dominica – Windward Islands left-arm spinner Gary Mathurin grabbed a career-best 7-72 but England Lions were poised to complete an emphatic victory on Saturday.

The 27-year-old from St Lucia bowled with great control and got the ball to turn in an outstanding spell. It surpassed his previous first-class best of 3-44 and brought the Windwards back into the match.

Pakistan end Australia's run

Colombo, Sri Lanka – Pakistan recorded an historic win over Australia on Saturday to bring the defending champs’ 34-match unbeaten run in the ICC Cricket World Cup to a halt.

The amazing unbeaten record dating back to 1999 was finally broken as the Pakistanis earned a hard-fought four-wicket win on an unpredictable surface at the refurbished R Premadasa Stadium in Khetterama.

Australia, who have won the last three World Cups during the run and were unbeaten in five matches in Group A in this tournament, were bowled out for 176.

Tsotsobe, Peterson star in big SA win

Dhaka, Bangladesh – South Africa secured top spot in Group B of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and sent Bangladesh to the brink of elimination with a comprehensive 206-run thrashing of the co-hosts on Saturday.

South Africa’s win means India and England are also assured of quarter-final places. West Indies are also expected to secure a spot in the final eight as well. The Windies will play their final group match on Sunday against India.
