Simmons hits ton to steady T&T

Georgetown, Guyana – Opener Lendl Simmons stroked his ninth first-class century as Trinidad and Tobago took command of their final round match in the WICB First Class Championship against Guyana on Friday.

The 26-year-old right-hander hit a fluent 134 not out as he propelled the visitors to 291-4 at the close of the opening day at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence.

Dhaka, Bangladesh – New Zealand pulled off a major upset as they beat South Africa on Friday by knocking the form team out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals.

Woakes ton floors JA

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Chris Woakes battered Jamaica’s inexperienced bowling attack into submission with a stroke-filled hundred for the England Lions in the WICB Regional first-class championship on Thursday. Woakes, batting at eight, was undefeated on 104 – his third first-class hundred – to lead the Lions to 340 for nine in their first innings at the close on the opening day of their seventh round match at Sabina Park.

Jamaica face Lions without key bowlers

Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaica’s plans to overcome the England Lions in the final round of the WICB Regional first-class championship, starting on Thursday at Sabina Park, have hit a snag.

The national selection panel has had to reconstruct the entire bowling attack, following a spate of injuries that hit the squad during and after last weekend’s match against Trinidad & Tobago.

Jerome Taylor, as well as fellow fast bowler Andrew Richardson, all-rounder Dave Bernard, and leg-spinner Odean Brown are all unavailable due to injury.
