Sri Lanka bat first in grand final

Mumbai, India – Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat in the ICC World Cup 2011 final against India on Saturday.

Injured left-arm pace bowler Ashish Nehra was replaced by Shanthakumaran Sreesanth in the India team for what is one of the biggest matches in history at Wankhede Stadium.

Sri Lanka made four changes, selecting Thisara Perera, Suraj Randiv, Nuwan Kulasekara and Chamara Kapugedera in place of Angelo Mathews, Ajantha Mendis, Rangana Herath and Chamara Silva.

Nash and Samuels on top of Jamaica

St Augustine, Trinidad – Brendan Nash was closing in on a century but the in-form Marlon Samuels missed out on one, as Jamaica dominated Trinidad and Tobago on the opening day of their WICB First Class Championship semi-final on Friday.

The left-hander finished the day unbeaten on 96 while Samuels was dismissed for 80, two innings that propelled the defending champions to 251-3 at the close at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground.

Cave Hill, Barbados – An excellent spell off off-spin bowling by skipper Liam Sebastien has given the Windward Islands a slight advantage over Combine Campuses & Colleges at tea on the opening day of the WICB First-class semi-final at the 3Ws Oval.

Cave Hill, Barbados – A steady knock of 38 not out by experienced opener Romel Currency has put Combined Campuses & Colleges in a good position against the Windward Islands in their WICB First-class semi-final at the 3Ws Oval on Friday.

CCC reached 96-2 at the scheduled break. Skipper Omar Phillips was leg-before to Nelon Pascal for five in the day’s third over, while Shacoya Thomas was also trapped LBW by off-spinner Liam Sebastien for 32.
