No play on second day of first Test

Chittagong, Bangladesh -- The second day in the first Test match between Bangladesh and West Indies at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium was called off on Saturday due to heavy overnight rain that left the outfield wet and unfit for play.

The match referee and umpires made the decision after an inspection at 11 am. The groundstaff spent the entire morning and afternoon mopping up. Play will resume 30 minutes earlier than scheduled on Sunday at 9 am (11 pm Saturday Eastern Caribbean Time/10 pm Jamaica Time).

Windies held at bay by busy Mishfiqur

Chittagong, Bangladesh, CMC – Captain Mushfiqur Rahim stroked an attractive, unbeaten half-century as Bangladesh kept West Indies busy in the field on the opening day of the first Test on Friday.

The little right-hander played some bold shots in his 68 to fire his side up to 255-4 at the close, after they opted to bat first at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Opener Tamim Iqbal batted patiently for 52 while Raqibul Hasan (41) and Shakib Al Hasan (40) played supporting roles.

Lunch Day 1: Bangladesh 74-1

Chittagong, Bangladesh -- Bangladesh were 74-1 at lunch on the opening day of the 1st Test match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong on Friday.

The one wicket to fall was left-hander Imrul Kayes who was caught by keeper Carlton Baugh off pacer Ravi Rampaul. At the break, opener Tamim Iqbal was playing well on 32 not out. Bangladesh suffered a blow when left-hander Shahriar Nafees was forced to retire hurt on 21 with the total on 58-1. He was struck a fearful blow to the face.

Bangladesh bat first in Chittagong

Chittagong, Bangladesh – Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first on the opening day of the 1st Test match against West Indies at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong on Friday.

All-rounder Nasir Hossain and left-arm spinner Elias Sunny were handed their first Test caps for Bangladesh while teenaged right-handed opener Kraigg Brathwaite earned a recall for the West Indies.

Bishoo feeling the Test Match vibes

Chittagong, Bangladesh – Devendra Bishoo is “big” on Test cricket. The West Indies leg-spinner says the five-day game is his favourite format and he is feeling confident as the Windies prepare for the start of the two-match Test Series against Bangladesh on Friday.

This will be Bishoo’s sixth Test and first outside the Caribbean. He said the preparations for himself and the team have gone well. The match will be at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

First ball is 9.30 am (11.30 pm Thursday Eastern Caribbean Time/10.30 pm Jamaica Time)
