Daren Powell grieves for Morton

Junction, St Elizabeth — Former West Indies fast bowler turned politician Daren Powell yesterday expressed shock and grief at the news of the passing of former teammate, batsman Runako Morton, who died in a car crash in central Trinidad late Sunday.

Best recalled, Charles gets nod for ODIs

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Fiery fast bowler Tino Best has been recalled to the West Indies side for the first three Digicel One-Day Internationals against Australia starting later this month.

The 30-year-old, who has not worn maroon colours in almost three years, was named on Tuesday in a 13-man squad which will be captained by Darren Sammy. Wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin has been appointed vice-captain.

Cricket South Africa tribute to Morton

Johannesburg, South Africa – Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday expressed its deep shock and sadness at the sudden passing of West Indies international cricketer, Runako Morton, as the result of a motor car accident.

Morton is well remembered in South Africa, having been part of the West Indies team that toured this country in 2007/08. He played in both the Test match series as well as the ODIs.

“We have been shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Runako Morton at the tragically young age of 33,” commented CSA Acting President AK Khan.
