St George's, Grenada - The Trinidad and Tobago’s women cricketers will be going all out to win the Regional Super50 title when they take on defending champions Jamaica in the final at Tanteen in Grenada today.
Some of the top women’s cricketers in region will feature in the final, including top-rated players Shanel Daley Stafanie Taylor of Jamaica, as well as spinner Anisa Mohammed and West Indies captain Merissa Aguilleira of T&T.
T&T coach Marjorie Thomas said her team are eager to take on the Jamaicans in the final after failing to overcome them in both the Women’s Twenty20 final in 2012 and Super50 final in 2011.
“The confidence and spirit of the team is very high and they are really looking forward to playing in the final,” she told the Express. “It is no secret that it has been an important encounter for us in the past two years and it is a hurdle we know we have to overcome.
“We have been close on two occasions in both the T20 and Super50. We have been second to Jamaica in the past two years and we are working very hard to see if we can reverse the results.”
Thomas insisted that T&T have learned from their mistakes in the past and will be better equipped for today’s final.
“We have looked at both scenarios when we lost and we have gone through the situations, and we think we are ready now and we are just waiting for the time, weather permitting to go out there and do our best and hopefully come out with the victory,” the T&T coach added.
“We cannot afford to be complacent. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain,” Thomas insisted.
“We have to go out there and focus and work hard and get the reward. It is not going to come to us, we have to go out there and get it,” she concluded.
