Walton ton gives CCC edge over Guyana

Bridgetown, Barbados - Chadwick Walton picked up where Shacaya Thomas left off, stroking his third First Class century, to help the Combined Campuses and Colleges stay on top on Day 3.

Veerasammy Permaul gave Guyana the ideal start to Day 3 getting rid of both Thomas and Steven Jacobs in quick succession. Overnight, Thomas was unbeaten on 161 but he could only add 16 runs before being trapped Leg Before Wicket.

When Jacobs mistimed a ball to Tagenarine Chanderpaul at mid-on, the College Students endured a mini collapse going from 288/5 to 310/7. But Walton soldiered on, having past his half-century.

He found a willing partner in Kevin McClean, who batted patiently. McClean scored 33 runs from 69 balls, hitting two boundaries during his knock.

He stayed with Walton until the wicket-keeper reached 94 but then was caught behind off Davendra Bishoo. Walton did go on to achieve his century, and the CCC declared on 391/9 shortly thereafter.

It meant the College Students had wracked up a lead of 128 runs. McClean struck early in Guyana's second innings, removing opener Assad Fudadin for right.

However, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Leon Johnson have so far put on 66 runs together. Johnson is not out 34 while Tagenarine Chanderpaul is unbeaten on 32. Day 4 starts at 3pm Eastern Caribbean Time tomorrow with Guyana still trailing CCC's first innings score by 46 runs.
