AT MANCHESTER HIGH - Jamaica v T&T

All-rounder Sachin Seecharan had a good performance yesterday for the national under-15 team, but the Jamaicans fought back to leave the match hanging in the balance in their final round clash of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional u-15 tournament in Jamaica.

Bowling first at the Manchester High School Ground, Seecharan took 3/8 with his meidum pace as Jamaica were bowled out for 75 in their first innings.

Seecharan was supported by skipper Kirstan Kallicharan and fast bowler Joel Sutherland, who grabbed 3/12 and 2/7 respectively. Ian Spence showed some fight for the hosts, scoring an unbeaten 19.

In reply, the top order for T&T failed as they were reduced to 43/4 with the dangerous Kallicharan and vice captain Saiba Batoosingh already back in the pavilion. Kallicharan, who scored 63 to win the match for T&T in the last round against Guyana, was dismissed for one, while Batoosingh who scored 70 against the Leeward Islands, could only muster seven.

When T&T were further reduced to 68/7, it looked like T&T would concede first innings points. However, Seecharan made a valiant 28 as T&T limped to 107/9 off 38 overs, with a lead of 32 runs.

In their second turn at the crease, Jamaica quickly erased the lead as they raced to 49/0 off 12 overs. Rajhni Roye was on 25, while Richard McIntosh was giving good support on 17.

Kallicharan and Emilo Gopaul snatched one wicket apiece to leave Jamaica on 58/2, with a small lead of 26 runs. Unfortunately for T&T, an unbroken third wicket partnership of 27 from Jamaica meant they closed on 85/2 with a lead of 53 runs. Courtesy The Trinidad Guardian

AT TREASURE BEACH - Leewards v Windwards

The Windward Islands put in a commanding performance of Day 1 to ensure that if T&T should slip up against Jamaica, they would be in pole position to take the Regional Under 15 title. The Leewards put in another dismal performance with the bat after taking first strike.

Only three batsmen got into double figures in a score that also remained in double figures. Brad Barnes made 16 while Ian Spence's unbeaten 19 was the highest score of the innings as the Leewards were bowled out for 80. Alick Anthanaze (4-12) did most of the damage for the Windwards.

In the Windwards' response, opener, Johann Jeremiah gave the innings a good start with 35. It was middle-order batsman, Emmanuel Stewart, though that gave the innings some backbone, hitting 55, in a knock that included four boundaries and a six. The Windwards responded with 171, gaining a lead of 91 runs.

Without even knocking off the lead, the Leewards are already five wickets down. Shane Roberts struck three big blows in the Leewards second innings as the Windwards left their opponents reeling at 38/5 at stumps on Day 1. The Leewards still trail by 53 runs.

AT MANLEY HORNE - Barbados v Guyana

Guyana's bowlers have given them the ideal chance to spring Barbados and go fo an outright victory in the final round. After asking Barbados to bat first, it appeared to be the right decision as Barbados were quickly reduced to 26/3.

Things didn't get much better for the Bajans as partnerships were hard to come by. Captain, Nagee Holder resisted with a top score of 30 but that was as good as the Bajan batting got. After Ronaldo Mohammed and Richie Luknauth took two wickets each up top, Ashmead Nedd killed off the lower order, finishing with 4-22.

Guyana, in their first innings, raced to 148/7 in 39 overs. The opening partnership of wicket-keeper, Adrian Sukwah and Raymond Perez put on 75 runs. Sukwah hit five fours in his knock of 56 while Perez struck six fours in his 39. Guyana gained a lead of 48 runs. Joshua Bishop was the pick of the Bajan bowlers with 3-49.

Luknauth returned to traumatize the Bajan batsmen in the second innings, striking two early blows to leave the Barbados at 47/3. He would strike two late blows to add to Mohammed's one and Sagar Hathiramani's two wickets as Barbados steered defeat at stumps on 83/7. They lead by 35 runs.
