Port of Spain, Trinidad - The T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) will meet with the ministry of Tourism today to iron out details of the upcoming regional Super50 cricket tournament which will be staged in Trinidad and Tobago in January.

Head of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) marketing committee and executive member of the TTCB, Baldath Mahabir will lead the delegation which meets with the minister of Tourism Chandresh Sharma.

The Ministry of Tourism has signed a three-year deal to host the tournament from January 2014 to January 2016.

According to Mahabir: “They are the major stakeholders in this tournament and before anything is done we have to meet with them and find out what they want from this association. “When we meet and discuss the matters fully then we would be able to make certain decisions as pertaining the tournament.”

At the moment the TTCB are the caretakers of the tournament until the WICB puts a committee in place to deal with it.

Meanwhile, the T&T cricketers have been given a break since their return from the Champions League in India and will remain inactive for the next few weeks, after a torrid season. T&T bowed out at the semi-final stages of the tournament at the hands of the Mumbai Indians.

Their next assignment will be the Regional Super50 tournament and the national selectors are expected to meet soon to finalise a squad of players who will undergo training and trial matches in preparation for the Super50.

Some of the players have already started their own training programme for the 2014 season, as the local club season will begin before the regional Super50. The TTCB is also expected to host a pre-season tournament in December for the national cricketers to get match ready for the new season.

However, this plan is not finalised because the TTCB will hold their annual general meeting on Saturday at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) where all post on the national executive will be up for grabs.

Former Test cricketer Dinanath Ramnarine will be opposing the incumbent president of the TTCB, Azim Bassarath.
