T&T name strong Under 19 team

PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD - Vikash Mohan will lead a strong 14-member national Under-19 team into battle when the WICB Regional Under-19 Tournament bowls off in Barbados later this month.

The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) announced the squad yesterday which will be coached by Kelvin Williams and managed by Roland Sampath.

The TT team includes a number of top young players including left-arm spinner Jovan Ali, El Dorado East batsman Ewart Nicholson, former Hillview batsman Jeremo Solozano and Nicholas Pooran. Speaking to Newsday yesterday, coach Williams expressed delight with the composition of his squad which has been in training for the past month.

“The squad is very experienced as far as cricket is concerned and a lot of the players play for Premiership clubs so that augurs well for us. We have some quality medium-fast bowlers, spinners and all-rounders and I an quite pleased with what we have,” Williams declared.

The national squad will train today at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva before playing a three-day match tomorrow against a Select XI at UWI, St Augustine. The national team will leave for Barbados on July 26.
