Thomas maiden century leads CCC reply

Bridgetown, Barbados - Shacaya Thomas outshone Ryan Austin but together both gave the Combined Campuses & Colleges the advantage against Guyana on Day 2.

The Guyanese started second day on 209/6 after progressing quite slowly on Day 1. Austin would ensure they didn't make great progress on Day 2 as he nabbed four wickets to add to his one overnight. It was his 18th five-wicket haul.

Though Anthony Bramble battled for the visitors with an aggressive, unbeaten 64, Guyana were not allowed to get away by CCC. Bramble added 44 runs to his overnight total.

Guyana were bowled out for 263, adding just 54 runs on Day 2. The College Students then replied with a strong start. Thomas and Anthony Alleyne put on 86 runs for the opening stand.

The latter was more patient in his approach though. Alleyne only scored 12. When he was caught at slip by Leon Johnson off Narsingh Deonarine, Thomas was already on 72.

The opener then formed another good partnership, this time with Kyle Corbin. Both batsmen took the score to 150, putting on 64 runs together. Corbin stayed until Thomas brought up his maiden First Class century.

Corbin too, batted quite slowly though. He had gotten to 20 before Davendra Bishoo trapped him Leg Before Wicket. However, at the other end, Thomas was the anchor of the innings and he was doing a great job at it.

He then added 46 runs with Raymon Reifer who was out for 17, and is involved in an unbroken stand of 48 runs with wicket-keeper, Chadwick Walton, at the moment.

Thomas finished Day 2 unbeaten on 161, having faced 240 balls, hitting twelve sixes and four boundaries. Walton is with him on 27. Day 3 starts 3pm Eastern Caribbean Time tomorrow.
