T20 over-40 tournament bowls off next month

Port of Spain, Trinidad - The Central Trinidad Touring Team will be hosting a National Over-Forty Twenty20 cricket tournament starting on June 7 with a $30,000 first prize up for grabs.

The inaugural tournament, sponsored by former national cricketer Rajendra Mangalie in collaboration with Mangalie’s Trading PVC Ceiling, will feature 20 teams from around the country and is being held in memory of Mangalie’s father, Ramsahai.

Ramsahai played club cricket with Comets in the 1980’s coming up against former T&T batsman and chairman of the tournament’s organising committee Narine Bidhesi in Central Zone competition.

There is also a second prize of $12,000 while the third place finishers will get $7,000 and the fourth place team will pocket $5,000.

Bidhesi, who is also a senior national team selector, said there will be a briefing for interested clubs and teams at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva, on May 12 at 5:30 p.m.

Bidhesi also noted that the purpose of the tournament is to promote goodwill and enhance relations between the players involved and to grow the sport which is geared towards players over 40 years of age.
