Star girl Taylor among top nominees
KINGSTON, Jamaica — West Indies all-rounder Stafanie Taylor is the first woman to be nominated for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Cricketer of the Year award.
The 21-year-old allrounder from Jamaica is the Number 1 allrounder in women’s cricket and won the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award last year. She will be up against Aussie Michael Clarke and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal, Hashim Amla (South Africa), Stuart Broad (England), Alastair Cook (England), Virat Kohli (India), Vernon Philander (South Africa) and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
Two awards were added to the ceremony for women this year; One Day International Cricketer of the Year and T20I Cricketer of the Year. Taylor is nominated for both. The nominations took place on Monday and the awards are scheduled for September 16 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
