St. Michael through to inter-parish cricket semis

Bridgetown, Barbados - St. Michael Merchants became the first team through to the semi-finals of the UWI C.O. Williams Inter-Parish Twenty20 Competition after completing an 11-run victory over St. John Crusaders on Wednesday night.

St. Michael won the toss and made 138-5 in its 20 overs after opting to bat first. Jameel Stuart 36 off 24 deliveries, inclusive of 2 sixes and a solitary boundary. Craig St. Hill scored 30 while Omar Marshall ended not out on 24.

In reply, Shayne Moseley struck 43 runs in vain as St. John was then restricted to 127-9 in 20 overs. Moseley’s knock came off 42 deliveries and included three sixes and two boundaries, while Justin Brathwaite scored 29.

St. James Settlers recorded a 28-run win over Christ Church Dolphins on Tuesday night. St. James captain Shamarh Brooks struck an unbeaten 74 to lead his team to 166-3 in 20 overs, after winning the toss and batting first. Brooks’ whirlwind half-century came off just 43 balls while Shane Dowrich scored 37.

Christ Church Dolphins was then restricted to 138-7 in its 20 overs with Ravendra Persaud taking 3017 and Andre Marshall 2-26. Roston Chase scored 45 and Kyle Hope 36.

UWI Blackbirds delivered a crushing 84-run defeat on St. Philip Sharks last Friday night.

UWI made 197-4 in its 20 overs after being sent in to bat by St. Philip. Akeem Dewar hit a boundary studded 79 not out while Kavem Hodge scored 52 not out in just 30 deliveries. St. Philip was then dismissed for 113 all out with Dewar taking 4-7 and Hodge 4-28. Renaldo Brathwaite made 44 off 34 balls for St. Philip while Joffra Archer ended not out on 27.
