Smith wins Caribbean Single Wicket title

Port of Spain, Trinidad - Barbados and West Indies batsman Dwayne Smith blasted his way to the Glory TV Caribbean Single Wicket Competition title, at the UWI SPEC Ground in St Augustine, late on Sunday.

The tournament format entitled the players to bowl two overs at each other.

A member of the 2013 IPL and 2013 CLT20-winning Mumbai Indians team, Smith blasted four 6s and four 4s in a score of 46 in the final, against the bowling of Guyanese Christopher Barnwell. When Barnwell came in to bat against Smith for his two overs he could only muster 11 runs.

Smith qualified for the final when he defeated Navin Stewart 16-11 in the first semifinal. Barnwell overhauled Lendl Simmons in the second semifinal 35-32.

In the preliminary round, Smith played unbeaten, getting past Jamaican Takeem Lowe 47-18 and Marlon Richards 22-19.

Smith was the tournament’s leading scorer and the man with the most 6s, while Navin Stewart had the best bowling figures.
