Georgetown, Guyana - National Women’s T\20 captain, all-rounder Tremayne Smartt told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that she is satisfied with the overall performance of the Guyana Women’s team in the recently concluded Regional 50 overs and T\20 tournaments.

Guyana reached the semifinal in the 50 over competition before losing to Trinidad and Tobago by 7 runs through the Duckworth Lewis method. Guyana totaled 191 batting first while the Trinis were 74-2 in 25 overs in reply before the rain came. Berbican Smartt said that the Guyana team showed lots of improvement in 2013 “We played as a team and the spirit was high’, she added.

Smartt credited June Ogle who led the team in the team in the 50 overs competition. Ogle scored the most runs in the 50 over format there by receiving the award for the best batter. “She did a good job leading the team, she motivated us well and lead from the front”, Smartt pointed out.

She indicated that the batting let the team down a bit. She stated that the batters did not step up when it really matters, but the bowling and fielding were relatively good.

Smartt believes Guyana need a female league so that the players will continue to improve.

Guyana beat Trinidad and Tobago for the first time in the T\20 format and topped the points table in the preliminaries winning all their games before losing to Jamaica in the semis by 5 wickets in the last over. However, the Berbician was pleased with her performance stating that she achieved her goals.
