Singh leads Guyana fightback on Day 3

Kingston, Jamaica - Debutant, Vishal Singh, led Guyana's fightback on Day 3 but the visitors still have much work to do if they are to avoid an outright defeat against Jamaica.

Guyana started Day 3 on 32/1 in their second innings, trailing Jamaica by 145 runs. Overnight pair, Singh and Fudadin started the day solidly, taking the score to 97 before Tamar Lambert effected the breakthrough for Jamaica, getting Fudadin caught behind for 33.

But Singh then partnered with West Indies middle-order batsman, Narsingh Deonarine, in a stand worth 57 runs. Deonarine batted patiently, stroking 38 runs from 87 balls. He hit two fours and two sixes in the process, but fell to Nkrumah Bonner with the score on 154.

Singh continued to partner with several of his teammates, anchoring the innings and allowing his colleagues to bat around him. He batted very slowly, and was eventually out for 73 from 276 balls. He had hit only four boundaries.

When he was out, the score was 205, and Guyana had taken a lead of 28 runs. Guyana lost two more quick wickets as the visitors closed the third day on 235/8, with an overall lead of 58 runs.

Though they batted out all of Day 3, they could yet struggle to pull this match back, that is, if Numbers 10 and 11 can't come up with something special. Jerome Taylor bagged 5-29 in the innings. The fourth and final day starts tomorrow at 10am Jamaica Time (11am Eastern Caribbean Time).
