Sarwan, Lambert to captain sides at Guyana Festival cricket match

Georgetown, Guyana - Former Guyana and West Indies cricketer Clayton Benjamin Lambert has been named captain of the Masters’ IX that will play against a President’s IX in the Guyana Festival cricket match to be staged on August 9, 2014 at the Guyana National Stadium.

The left handed Lambert, 52, who also bowls off-break, will skipper the side that includes names such as Travis Dowlin, Sew Shivnarine, Derrick Kallicharran, Clyde Butts and Colin Stuart.

Meanwhile, the experienced Ramnaresh Sarwan will lead the President’s IX that include big names such as Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Lennox Cush, Mahendra Nagamootoo, Reon King and Easun Crandon.

The 20 overs match on Saturday takes place from 16:00h to 18:00h.

In addition to this, on the same day, there will be the spectacular Night of Legends Concert which will see renowned local artistes such as Dave Martins, Sammy Baksh, Terry Gajraj, the Yoruba Singers, Mighty Rebel, Sash Persaud, Celia Samaroo, Teddy Jones, Johnny Braff, Glenn Miller, Hilton Hemerding, Winston Caesar and Aubrey Mann performing.

On Sunday, August 10, a next generation concert will be held to help develop new/young talents in the music industry. It will be followed by a cook-off competition of traditional local cuisine, such as duck curry, cook-up, pepperpot, metemgee and black cake, among others. That activity will be organised by King’s Jewellery World.

The fundamental objective of the Guyana Festival set for August 8 to 10 is to showcase Guyana’s diverse cultural heritage, local manufactured products and services, and to celebrate local celebrities. The Guyana Festival is the brainchild of the Ministry of Tourism.
