Jamaica Observer article.
NEGRIL, Westmoreland — The launch of Beaches Negril's Inter-departmental cricket competition turned out to be an exciting event as managers from Beaches, Sandals and Grand Pineapple Resorts in Negril traded in their BlackBerries and laptops for bats and balls and competed for a chance to win the opening cricket match as well as full bragging rights.
After the dust settled, it was the Sandals Negril team which came out victorious at the T-10 cricket match held at Beaches Negril on Friday.
The Beaches and Grand Pineapple Negril combined team won the toss and sent Sandals Negril in to bat. From their allotted 10 overs, Sandals Negril made 80 runs for seven wickets. Captain Oliver Reid, loss prevention and security manager, opened the innings and top scored with 19 runs, with other useful contributions coming from fellow opener Carey Foster, bar manager, and number three batsman Evern Mills, cost controller, with 14 each.
Bowling for Sandals Negril, Foster took two wickets with support coming from Mills, Andrew Graham, chief engineer; Evan Lee, executive chef; with one wicket each, and a catch behind the wicket by Andre Dhanpaul, general manager, who kept brilliantly behind the stumps.
In response, Beaches Negril managed to make 47 runs from their allotted 10 overs with top scores coming from Adrian Whitehead, general manager, and Alexander Pike, operations manager, at Grand Pineapple Negril, who batted through the innings.
The inter-departmental cricket competition will officially begins today and will see the Beaches Negril managers seeking to redeem themselves as they go up against the Projects Department.
