Rain forces postponement of GBBC battle of the contenders

Georgetown, Guyana - Cricket fans were recently left aghast at the turn of events that caused Guyana’s 20/20 cricket team, ‘Amazon ‘Warriors’ to lose their Limacol CPL match against Barbados Tridents recently.
Persistent rains eventually forced the organizers to resort to the Duckworth/Lewis method to decide the winner.
Rain has since crossed the borders into Guyana and its persistence over the last few days has compromised the staging of the ‘Battle of the Contenders,’ initially scheduled for Saturday August 30 at the Banks DIH Thirst Park venue.
The organizers have said that since the Duckworth/Lewis system does not apply to this situation, they have been forced to reschedule the fights for September 13 at the same venue.
The bouts remain the same and in the main attraction, Dereck Richmond will square off with Jamaican Contender champion, Sakima Mullings in an 8 rounds Jnr./Middleweight scrap. Dexter ‘The Kid’ Marques will oppose Richard Williamson in a Bantamweight 6 rounder while Jamaican, Kamal Russell and Guyanese Winston Pompey will clash in a 6 rounds Middleweight bout. T&T based, Iwan Azore will also tangle with the dangerous, Dexter Gonsalves, over 8 rounds in a Junior/Welterweight fight.
The fighters have already signed their contracts and are engaged in stiff training for the bout. They have been advised to stay in the gym for the new date. Bell time remains at 20:00hrs sharp.
