Powell 91 puts Leewards in driving seat

Basseterre, St Kitts - Patient half-centuries from Kieran Powell and Tonito Willett led the Windward Islands to a slow, but solid start on a historical day at Warner Park.

For the first time ever, a match was being played under the newly installed lights. It was perhaps fitting, then, that the home team should dominate on the occasion.

The West Indies opener made a patient 91 from 182 balls, spending well over three hours at the crease. His knock included 14 boundaries.

Willett also continued his fine form with the bat, following up the good knock he had against the Combined Campuses & Colleges in Round 1. He ended Day 2 on 51 not out so things could yet get better for him.

Willett has so far spent over two hours at the crease, hitting five fours and a six. Hayden Walsh Junior is with him on 20 not out. Walsh's knock has also been quite patient. He has so far faced 83 balls while hitting two boundaries.

Jamaica's bowlers had to toil hard on Day 1. Captain Tamar Lambert, pacer Jerome Taylor, and Andrew Richardson all took two wickets each for the visitors.

The Leewards ended Day 1 on 205/6. They will resume their first innings from 3pm Eastern Caribbean Time tomorrow at the start of Day 2.
