Nash leads Jamaica fightback

ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Discarded Test batsman Brendan Nash was leading a Jamaica fightback after Guyana’s spinners struck key blows to leave the fourth round Regional Four-Day contest evenly poised after the second day here Saturday.

The left-handed Nash was unbeaten on 46 as Jamaica reached 146 for three at the close at the Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.

He was partnered by captain Tamar Lambert (13 not out) with whom he has so far shared a fourth wicket stand of 63.

Earlier, Guyana were dismissed for 294 after resuming the day on 217 for six.

The in-form Assad Fudadin got 39 while Royston Crandon scored 33.

Leg-spinner Odean Brown bowled superbly to finish with six for 100 while left-arm spinner Nikita Miller took two for 56.

In reply, the four-time defending champions and tournament leaders were cruising at 49 without loss with openers Brenton Parchment and Danza Hyatt easily negotiating the Guyana attack.

However, captain and left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul (2-24) and Test leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo (1-34) combined to engineer a minor collapse, as Jamaica lost three quick wickets.

Hyatt was caught at slip by Leon Johnson off Permaul for 21 off 65 balls at 49 for one before Parchment followed, prised out by Bishoo for 35 off 90 balls at 69 for two.

Permaul then claimed Donovan Pagon for 15 to leave Jamaica in a tangle at 85 for three before Nash and Lambert came to Jamaica’s aid.

Nash has so far faced 123 balls while Lambert has spent 67 balls at the crease.
