Montserrat get better of BVI
Basseterre, St Kitts, CMC – Deno Baker and Tevin Osborne followed up sound batting with steady bowling to usher Montserrat to their first victory in the Leeward Islands One-Day competition by 40 runs over the British Virgin Islands.
Baker collected four wickets for 50 runs from 10.1 overs and Osborne captured three for 53 from 12 overs, as BVI were dismissed for 231 in 46.1 overs, replying to Montserrat’s 271 for five from their allocation of 50 overs in their match at Warner Park.
Richard Fredericks struck half-dozen boundaries in 81 from 100 balls, and three other batsmen got starts without carrying on for the BVI. Dennisford Browne supported with 22, Montgomery Butler made 21, and Brent DeFreitas got 21.
Earlier, Jaison Peters stroked seven fours in 71 from 87 balls to lead four Montserrat batsmen that gathered half-centuries. Roscoe St. Clair hit seven fours and two sixes in 56 from 81 balls, McPherson Meade was unbeaten on 51 from 53, and Lionel Baker, better known for his fast-medium bowling, was not out on 50 from 33 balls, smashing five fours and a six.
