Mohammed rescues T&T from collapse
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Jason Mohammed’s second first class century rescued Trinidad and Tobago on the opening day of their fifth round clash in the Regional Four-Day Championship against Combined Campuses and Colleges here Saturday.
The right-hander stroked an unbeaten 119 to steer the hosts to a strong position of 285 for five at the close at Queen’s Park Oval.
Sent in, T&T were reeling at 19 for three inside the first hour but Mohammed anchored three big partnerships to haul his side away from danger.
He put on 117 for the fourth wicket with captain Dwayne Bravo who carved out an entertaining 60, before adding a further 80 with the big-hitting Kieron Pollard who got 45.
At the close, Mohammed was involved in an unbroken sixth wicket stand of 69 with Stephen Katwaroo, who was unbeaten on 28.
Mohammed has so far struck 19 fours and two sixes in an innings spanning five hours and 39 minutes, and 206 balls.
CCC stole the early honours after fast bowler Kesrick Williams (2-38) knocked over both West Indies openers, Lendl Simmons for two and Adrian Barath for 14, in an incisive spell.
Simmons was taken at third slip by Jamal Smith at ten for one while Barath was snapped up at point by Shacaya Thomas, nine runs later.
When Imran Khan offered no stroke to left-arm seamer Raymon Reifer (2-47) and was bowled for three, the T&T innings was in chaos.
However, Mohammed stood tall with a superb innings and along with Bravo, carried T&T to lunch at 66 for three.
Bravo faced 106 balls in 135 minutes at the crease, striking ten fours before falling just before tea, when he holed out to deep mid-wicket off off-spinner Ryan Austin.
Kieron Pollard then joined Mohammed to carry the fight to the visitors, hitting seven fours off 69 balls before he was bowled by Reifer.
