Mohammed, Emrit put T&T on top on Day 1

Port of Spain, Trinidad - Jason Mohammed and his skipper, Rayad Emrit combined in a mammoth 226-run stand to help hosts Trinidad & Tobago recover from a shaky start in their Round 5, Regional 4-Day match against the Combined Campuses & Colleges.

T&T were rocking on 80/3, when both batsmen met in the middle. T&T were potentially four wickets down and are potentially playing with ten men after opening batsman, Evin Lewis, pulled up with a groin problem two overs into the match.

Lewis limped off retired hurt with the T&T physio yet to score after facing an over. Barath got another start but was caught down the leg-side when Raymon Reifer was introduced into the attack. He made 12. Up until then, the College Students were struggling for a breakthrough.

Barath and Darren Bravo took the score to 43/1 before the opener nicked one that was down the leg-side. Bravo too, started off cautiously, but like Barath, he would lead to his own demise. Less than three overs after Barath's dismissal, Bravo played on to his stumps looking to place the ball to 3rd Man.

Things got worst for T&T when the returning Kieron Pollard edged Akeem Dewar to Kyle Corbin at slip. Pollard tried to build an innings in facing 21 balls.

At an uncertain position, the match was halted by two brief periods of rain but once the lights took full effect, there were no further interference. That's when Mohammed and Emrit settled in for the long haul.

Both batsmen started off cautiously but grew in confidence as their various innings progressed. Once in, they started to score quickly, and rotated the strike quite often.

While Mohammed seemed to be at ease at the crease, Emrit was fighting off back spasms while out in the middle, many times lying on the pitch face-down and stretching his back. He did, however, grind it out for his team.

Shortly after Mohammed brought up his third First Class century, Emrit followed, also with his third. The discomfort seemed to override him though and he lost concentration late in the day, edging to slip when on 100. His knock came off 170 balls and included eight fours and four sixes.

Mohammed would see out the rest of the day, unbeaten on 149. This is now his highest ever First Class score. He has so far struck 17 fours and three sixes. He has batted 241 balls. Raymon Reifer was the pick of the bowlers for the CCC with 2-47. The second day's play starts at 3pm Eastern Caribbean Time tomorrow.
