Mohammed on the double as CCC floored
Port of Spain, Trinidad - Jason Mohammed carried on from where he left off overnight to record his maiden double century in First Class cricket.
It came on a morning when T&T cricketers woke up to the shock that they had lost a young comrade. T&T Under-19 pacer, Tevin Robertson, died in a car crash on Friday night.
Mohammed, who was unbeaten on 149 on Day 1, was a dear friend of Robertson, having played with him at Powergen Cricket Club. He would dedicate the double century to Robertson after the day's play.
A visibly sad and shocked T&T camp showed up at the Queen's Park Oval on Saturday afternoon to resume their first innings against the Combined Campuses & Colleges on 328/4. After a minute's silence for Robertson, the atmosphere was still quite sad.
But Mohammed seemed much more determined at the start of the day than the night before. When he had gotten to his century after Tea on Day 1, he played more of his shots, but he seemed more determined on Day 2 to convert his 149 into a bigger ton.
He hardly found any partners that would stay with him. Starting the day on five, wicket-keeper Stephen Katwaroo only added five more before he was out.
Imran Khan stuck around for just under an hour, and made just 4 runs, but Mohammed used that time to play his shots and build his score. He roared as he got to his double century, punching the air and then facing towards his teammates, raising both his arms.
He would eventually hole out to deep extra-cover for 220. T&T declared on 451/8, leaving the College Students with 56 overs in the day's play.
The scoreboard pressure was one thing, but CCC looked tired after spending over a day in the field. Shannon Gabriel fired for T&T early on, getting Shacaya Thomas caught behind then trapping Kyle Corbin LBW. CCC were left reeling at 29/2.
Though the visitors tried stringing together a few partnerships along the way, T&T kept breaking through frequently. Raymon Reifer anchored the innings, but no one would bat around him. He finished the day unbeaten on 49.
CCC's worst slide came when they lost three wickets without a run being added when they were on 130 runs. They ended Day 2 on 142/8, still trailing T&T's 1st Innings total by 309 runs. Khan struck three late, lethal blows while Gabriel did the early damage.
Day 3 starts at 3pm Eastern Caribbean Time tomorrow.
