Minister of Sport bats for Smith recall
St George’s, Grenada - Grenada's Minister of Sports, Emmalin Pierre says, she is delighted with the success of the Windward Islands cricket, particularly that of the Grenadian players on the team.
Prolific opener Devon Smith, the leading scorer in the region in all formats this season, and Andre Fletcher were central to the team lifting the Super50 title in Barbados last weekend.
Fletcher, is the second highest run scorer in the Super50 this year behind Smith
"We are extremely excited that the team would have copped its first Regional title in 13 years, and we are particularly pleased with the success of both Smith and Fletcher," Minister Pierre said.
"This has been a dream season for Smith who has shown with his consistency this year that he is ready for an international recall," she said.
"Given his run, Smith has told West Indies selectors with his bat 'pick me'. He has shown a remarkable consistency, coupled with his long proven obvious talent, that should get him back where he belongs," she said.
Minister Pierre said, she is also confident that Fletcher, who has had a consistent run of scores this season without making a century, will continue to build on his talent.
"A West Indies A team Tour may well be what he needs this year as he seeks to make a comeback to the Senior Team," she said.
"As a people we must continue to support and encourage Smith, Fletcher (and also Nelon Pascal), as well as the number of promising junior cricketers we see coming through the ranks," Minister Pierre further commented.
