Liberta wins ABCA Two-Day

St John's, Antigua - The PIC Insurance Liberta cricket team retained the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) Two-Day title for a third straight year following a nine-wicket victory over Police. The groups clashed at the Police Recreation Grounds (PRG) on the weekend.
Liberta entered the contest on 56 points and needed a victory in order to surpass New Winthorpes and take the title. New Winthorpes ended the tournament on 60 points.
Winning the toss and opting to bat, Police were all out for 88 in their first innings in 22.2 overs. Daren Dunnah top-scored for the lawmen with 26 runs while Austin Richards Jr added 20 runs of his own.
Ian Gore did well with the ball for Liberta, bagging four wickets for 31 runs while Hayden Walsh Jr also had a good spell, taking three for 29.
Liberta, in reply, got to 139 for eight in response to Police’s first innings total. Kadeem Phillip led the way with 35 runs while Rakheem “Jimbo” Cornwall and Gore contributed 27 and 25 runs, respectively.
Bowling for the lawmen, James Cornelius snatched four wickets for 43 runs, Anthony “I-Roots” Martin bagged two for 15 and Lynton Africa took two for 39.
Police’s batting improved in the second innings as they got to 121 all out with Dunnah and Richards Jr posting totals of 35 and 29, respectively. Cornwall and Walsh Jr both shone with the ball, grabbing five for 32 and five for 46, respectively.
Liberta then cruised to victory at 66 for one with Phillip making 41 not out.
