American University to inaugurate cricket field in Antigua

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – American University of Antigua (AUA) will inaugurate its cricket field on campus grounds on Saturday, September 17 at 1 pm, with a Twenty20 cricket match against a Combined Schools team. The brain-child behind the cricket field, Vice President of Administrative Services and Community of the University Basil Stuart, said the call by Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer during his address to open the facility that he expects to see a cricket field on the campus drove home the point.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – One of the highlights of the INET International Pairs is the fund-raising auction held during the prize giving cocktail and this year’s recipient will be former West Indies and Windward Islands cricketer Winston Davis. Davis became a tetraplegic following a tragic accident in 1998 and in a recent interview he stated that the accident was not the end of his life. “People come to me and say how you coping and I say I am not coping, I am living. You go from crying to living,” he says.

WICB hosts workshop for Youth Coaches & TDOs

St John’s, Antigua– The West Indies Cricket Board is hosting a historic workshop for Youth Coaches and Territorial Development Officers (TDOs) from around the region.

Over 30 coaches from 15 territories gathered at the City View Hotel in St John’s on Monday 22nd and today Tuesday 23rd August for the comprehensive two day engagement.

The Youth Coaches were selected from the Digicel Cricket Grassroots and Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket programmes.

Hughes gets 66 but Derbyshire lose

London, England, CMC – Derbyshire’s Leeward Islands left-hander Chesney Hughes top scored with 66 but failed to prevent a 34-run loss to Middlesex in the Clydesdale Bank 40 limited overs tournament here Sunday.

Chasing 254 for victory, Derbyshire were dismissed for 219 off 35.4 overs, to miss out on the chance to go second in Group A. Playing at Chesterfield, the 20-year-old Hughes gave Derbyshire momentum at the top of the order after they lost New Zealander Martin Guptill without scoring to the fifth ball of the innings.

Guyana have Leewards on the ropes

Georgetown, Guyana, CMC – Leeward Islands were slipping to an innings defeat against a rampant Guyana at the end of the second day of the opening round of matches in the WICB Regional Under-19 Championship on Tuesday.

At the close on a rain-hit day at the National Stadium, the Leewards were struggling on 112 for six in their second innings, still 98 runs away from avoiding a heavy defeat.
