Russell was brilliant - Stuart Williams

North Sound, Antigua – West Indies A Team Assistant Coach and former West Indies opening batsman Stuart Williams has hailed Andre Russell’s century as an innings of brilliance.

“It was a brilliant innings by Russell, he mixed aggression with defence, he ran well between the wickets and he built partnerships which brought us back into the game,” said the 42 year old who featured in 31 Tests and 57 One Day Internationals.

Charles hits 72 in Windwards warm-up win

Georgetown, Guyana, CMC – Johnson Charles is looking good ahead of the WICB Regional Super50 Series as he stroked an attractive 72 to lead Windward Islands to a comfortable six-wicket win over Leewards Islands in the first of two warm-up matches on Saturday.

The 22-year-old right-hander played several handsome shots as he smashed 11 fours and three sixes as Windwards reached 159 for four off 25.4 overs, overhauling the Leewards’ 157 all out off 34.4 overs at the Demerara Cricket Club.

Javier Liburd to lead Leewards in WICB Super50

Bridgetown, Barbados, CMC – Batsman Javia Liburd will lead the Leeward Islands as they launch their defence of the West Indies Cricket Board’s Regional Super50 title in Guyana starting next week.

The 24-year-old was named to lead the 14-man squad, following the conclusion of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association NAGICO limited overs tournament in St Kitts on Sunday.

Antigua & Barbuda take Leewards title

Basseterre, St Kitts, CMC – Antigua and Barbuda captured their eighth Leewards Islands Cricket Association NAGICO Limited Overs title when they trounced in-form Nevis in the final at Warner Park.

Batting first after winning the toss, the visitors tallied 210 off 46.4 overs with Man-of-the-Match Austin Richards Jr stroking a top score of 69. In reply, Nevis’ formidable batting suffered an unfamiliar collapse as the hosts tumbled to a disappointing 138 all out off 35.3 overs, to lose by 72 runs.

Montserrat get better of BVI

Basseterre, St Kitts, CMC – Deno Baker and Tevin Osborne followed up sound batting with steady bowling to usher Montserrat to their first victory in the Leeward Islands One-Day competition by 40 runs over the British Virgin Islands.
