Khalawan’s 138 not enough for Naps

PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD - Naparima Boys batsman Clevon Khalawan’s unbeaten century was not enough to give South West victory over South East in the final preliminary round of the BG TT Under-17 InterZone 50-over tournament, yesterday.

In the shortened 38-over match, due to a late start, South East compiled a massive 306/7 with Akil Mohammed (80) and S Rambarran (84) being the top scorers. V Ramadar was the best bowler for South West, picking up 4/35.

Chasing a huge total of 307, Khalawan was a one-man show stroking 138 not out, as his team could only muster 233/5. Mohammed was also among the wickets, taking 2/37.

At Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Hillview College all-rounder Afdal Khan continued his heroics, snatching 4/33 to lead East to a 45-run win over North.

Khan scored 93 in the last round of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League that led Hillview to the league title. Batting first, East made a dismal 160/9 in 50 overs.

Shakeem Prince made 28, while Nickolai Niron contributed an unbeaten 20. Calvi Alva’s 4/15 restricted the East batsmen. Khan’s left-arm bowling ensured his team’s total was enough, as North’s batting never got going.

In other matches, Virendra Jagroop and Emilio Gopaul gave Central a win against South and Dejourn Charles’ 60 led Tobago to victory over North East.
