Keeper James props up Windwards
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Lindon James stroked a half-century but Windward Island suffered another batting collapse on the opening day of their sixth round Regional 4-Day match against Combined Campuses and Colleges on Friday.
The tall free-scoring wicket-keeper hammered 52 before being last out as the Windwards, sent in to bat, were dismissed for 149 at the Grenada National Stadium. At the close, however, CCC were in trouble at 48 for three, with opener Kyle Corbin propping up the innings on 24 not out.
The Windwards lost wickets regularly as off-spinner Ryan Austin (3-31) and Kevin McClean (3-34) picked up three wickets apiece. Fast bowler Jason Holder claimed two for 41.
Openers Atticus Browne (1) and Devon Smith (5) fell with the score on nine before Keddy Lesporis (27) and Andre Fletcher (14) added 44 for the third wicket to repair the innings. Once Fletcher was caught behind off McClean, the innings went into decline again.
James, counter-attacked, however, striking five fours and a six off 63 balls in 132 minutes before he top-edged a sweep to captain Romel Currency at backward square, to signal the end of the innings.
